I can’t find the words to thank the thousands of you who believed in this campaign and the many many of you who gave of your time, your money, and your prayers for this effort.
When we began, we said we would “run for Wednesday” meaning we would run with an eye toward what we had created the day following the race. I hope what we created was a renewed sense that American politics can be a civil, and honorable experience, built on a candidate meeting voters one by one. If we were successful in that, we were indeed successful.
Tonight, the people of the 1st District have spoken and we accept their decision with respect. The low-country is filled with wonderful compassionate people and I know that more now than ever before.
